Aliso Viejo, Calif., March 9, 2009 – AZ
Displays, Inc. announced today the introduction of two new additions
to their OLED product line - AZOLED034A and AZOLED043A (3.4 and 4.3 Inch
wide screen format). These two products feature a combination of a bare
OLED panel and an integrated video decoder board, something that is very
rare in the electronics industry. By
combining a bare OLED panel with an integrated video decoder board, AZ
Displays has created a unique product for the industry. The decoder
board allows a user to display content with plug-and-play ease via a RCA
video input, computer VGA input or both. The built-in board performs
multiple signal processing types internally including DC/DC, NTSC video
decoding and timing T-CON synchronization.
“AZOLED034A and AZOLED043A (rated for a minimum of 20,000 hours MTBF)
are not just your ordinary OLED panels. These panels are capable of
displaying high quality color graphics and full motion video without the
requirement of a backlight,” said Dmitriy Demidov, AZ Displays’ national
sales manager.
“To further differentiate AZ Displays’ product
from the competition, both AZOLED034A and AZOLED043A are offered with
convenient mounting holes.” Additionally, both panels come with an
optional specially designed keyboard for volume control, content source
selection and menu navigation.

###
OLED Advantages and Technology Overview
-
The organic layers of an OLED are
thinner and lighter than the crystalline layers in an LED or LCD.
-
OLEDs do not require backlighting
like LCDs. LCDs work by selectively blocking areas of the backlight
to make the images that you see while OLEDs generate light
themselves. In fact, OLEDs have no backlighting function. Where LCDsare not capable of displaying true black, OLEDs have a so-called
"off state" which produces no light and consumes no power at all
displaying true black. Because OLEDs do not require backlighting,
they consume much less power than LCDs. (See more below.)
-
OLEDs have low voltage and power
consumption whereas most power for LCDs goes to the backlighting.
This is especially important for battery-operated devices. However,
since AZOLED034A and AZOLED043A are not just OLED panels but
combinations of a bare OLED panel and an integrated video decoder
board, they require a higher voltage (12 V) and draw more power
compared to bare OLED panels.
-
OLEDs have large fields of view,
about 170 degrees. Because LCDs work by blocking light, they have an
inherent viewing obstacle from certain angles. OLEDs produce their
own light so they have a much wider viewing range.
-
OLED technology allows an
increased brightness and a contrast much higher than TFT LCDs. The
typical contrast of AZOLED034A and AZOLED043A is 10K:1.
-
An OLED’s wide viewing angle,
capability to display true black color levels and high contrast all
result in an ability to achieve very high color saturation.
Typical Applications for 3.4 and 4.3 Inch OLEDs
Typical Applications for KIT OLED
Solutions
-
For customers, who need a turnkey
solution and do not want to spend the time to develop their own
board solution.
-
KIT solution enables easy
replacement from existing TFT solutions due to the various
interfaces offered.
